Canadian lawmaker Charlie Angus delivered what can only be described as a diplomatic haymaker to Donald Trump last week, after the former U.S. president launched yet another attack on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy—this time calling him a “dictator.”
The remark stunned European allies, triggered a wave of facepalms from Republican politicians, and once again proved that Trump’s foreign policy strategy is based entirely on vibes.
Angus, a member of Canada’s New Democratic Party and a long-time critic of authoritarianism, didn’t hold back, ripping into Trump like a hockey enforcer who just watched an opponent trip his goalie.
“Zelenskyy Has More Moral Fiber in His Little Toe Than Trump Has in His Entire Cabinet”
During an interview with Ben Meiselas of the MeidasTouch Network, Angus summed up the Trump-Zelenskyy comparison in the most Canadian way possible—polite in structure, devastating in delivery:
“To attack a leader like Zelenskyy, who has more moral fiber in his little toe than Donald Trump has in his entire body and his entire cabinet, is outrageous.”
Translation:
🔹 One man is leading a war-torn country against an unprovoked invasion.
🔹 The other is leading a personal war against his 34 felony convictions.
Angus then escalated from measured criticism to nuclear honesty, bluntly reminding everyone that:
“Volodymyr Zelenskyy has shown the world what democracy means. Donald Trump is a convicted felon and a sexual pervert. Those two men shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same sentence.”
Ouch.
At this point, the burn was so severe that Trump’s legal team may want to file defamation charges on behalf of his dignity.
Trump’s Putin Problem – “The World Will Have to Treat America Like We Treat Russia”
Of course, Angus didn’t stop there. He took direct aim at Trump’s obsessive admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin, comparing him to a “gangster” who is clearly rooting for authoritarian rule in Ukraine.
He then recalled a conversation with an Eastern European official after Trump called for regime change in Ukraine (because if there’s one thing Trump loves, it’s telling countries what to do despite never reading a history book).
“She said to me, ‘The Ukrainian people survived the Holodomor. The Ukrainian people survived Stalin. The Ukrainian people survived Chernobyl. They’ve survived Putin. Do you think that Donald Trump is going to break the Ukrainian people?’”
(Spoiler: He’s not.)
At this point, Angus delivered the ultimate mic-drop moment:
“So Donald, just put a sock in it for now.”
Considering that Trump has never been able to stop talking for more than five minutes, this might be the most unrealistic foreign policy proposal yet.
“Trump is Going to Do Enormous Damage to Democracy”
The Canadian lawmaker didn’t just make this about Ukraine, though. He issued a warning about the global consequences of Trump 2.0.
“Trump is going to do enormous damage to democracy,” Angus said. “And the world will be forced, now, to treat America the way we treat Putin.”
Translation: If Trump returns to office, America may officially graduate from “superpower” to “global problem child.”
In the worst-case scenario, Angus suggested, the world will have to compensate for America’s democratic backslide—rallying to protect Ukraine, democratic institutions, and basic reality itself.
And honestly? At this point, even Canada is getting fed up.
Trump’s Foreign Policy Strategy – Say Whatever Putin Wants to Hear
Trump’s ongoing attacks on Zelenskyy and constant parroting of Kremlin talking points have made it painfully obvious that his foreign policy strategy consists of:
📌 Whatever makes Putin smile
📌 Whatever makes Zelenskyy’s job harder
📌 Whatever makes Trump sound tough while doing absolutely nothing
If you needed proof, just look at his recent claims that Zelenskyy is a “dictator” while simultaneously calling for regime change in Ukraine himself.
That’s like saying:
🗳️ “Zelenskyy is an authoritarian!” (while defending Putin)
🎭 “The election was rigged!” (when you lost)
💸 “Billionaires are being unfairly targeted!” (while pretending to be a populist)
At this point, Trump’s geopolitical strategy could be replaced by a Twitter bot that only tweets things that make Moscow happy.
Final Thoughts – If You’re Getting Lectured By Canada, You’ve Gone Too Far
Look, Canada is famously polite.
When your politicians start delivering scathing takedowns like this, it’s safe to say that something has gone horribly wrong.
Charlie Angus’s message was clear:
- Ukraine isn’t going anywhere.
- Zelenskyy is fighting for democracy, not dictatorship.
- Trump should, in his words, “put a sock in it.”
But will Trump listen?
Absolutely not. He’s far too busy picking out which gold-plated throne he wants for 2025.
